Description:
Very fine Sharps 1859 military rifle. 52 caliber with a 30” barrel. Barrel has 95% of the original blue. Frame has 30% of the colors. Wood is excellent with like new cartouches. Gun appears unissued. Has lug for the saber bayonet. Many guns in this range with the saber bayonet lug were of the “ Mitchell Contract”. This was a navy contract made with Sharp’s agent John Mitchell for 1500 model 1859 rifles. Very fine model 1859 that is a possible Naval issue.
