Description: Serial #39751, .52 RF, 21" barrel with a fine, bright bore that has some spots of freckling within the grooves towards the muzzle and breech. The barrel has retained most of the original blue finish with an attractive dark plum-brown patina starting to form along the edges and borders, as well as a small amount of silvering and mild pinprick pitting at the muzzle. The frame, hammer, and lever have a similar mellow plum-brown patina with some remnants of what appears to be an original white metal finish remaining along the edges of the frame, breechblock, lever, and wrist tangs. The iron barrel band and buttplate likewise have traces of white metal remaining, while the lightly sanded walnut forend and stock having numerous small handling marks and minor blemishes throughout the dark brown military oil finish. There are some larger bruises on the buttstock, including a long, with-the-grain crack that carries through to both sides at the toe, and a dull, sanded area on the left side of the wrist where the cartouche used to be. This is a very good plus example of a just post-Civil War Starr, and would make a great example for a collection.
