Winchester model 1894 saddle ring carbine. 30 WCF. Made in 1916 20 inch long barrel. Made for police dept. Newark, NJ.
Stamp on both sides of the stock near the butt is stamped Newark Police Department. Blue on barrel is extra fine with only a couple minor scratches. Barrel has not been re-blued, all stamped lettering is deep, sharp, and clear. Bore is excellent clean, shiny with great grooves.
The stock has no major issues, just use dings, scratches, etc. The stock most likely has been oiled , It smells like linseed oil. The front stock band is not original, looks too new and shiny.
Action is tight and smooth.
There is a small crack on the fore stock on the left side just in front of the band screw. please see in photo.
