Winchester 65 .218 Bee caliber rifle. Ever popular and hard to find .218 Bee Model 65. Excellent bore. Action works perfectly. Barrel has approximately 99% original blue. Receiver has approximately 93-95% original blue, lever has approximately 70% original blue. The blue loss is due to “flaking” rather than wear. No one has ever seen an actual “flake” of blue but when blue “lifts” off of a gun it leaves a fine brown spot (no pits just a smooth brown spot). No one knows why this occurs. You find this on many Winchesters and it is probably due to the metallurgy on the receiver being very different from the barrel and magazine tube. Receivers flake and barrel and magazine tubes do not. So, you can have a mint unfired rifle that has a lot of flaking. Wear has nothing to do with flaking. It has to do with molecular composition of the metal. This happens on many Civil War Colts and Remingtons. This is a very fine all original Model 65 with desirable bolt peep sight.
