In , 'Sharps Firearms', Frank Sellers, Taylor Publishing Co., Dallas ,TX 1978, Mr. Sellers stated the famous Sharps Model 1874 was first produced at the Sharps Hartford, CT. factory from 1871-1876, with 2,120 sporting rifles produced , see pages 212,218. It was equipped with globe and peep sights. The 'peep' sight is a scarce variation of the sporting rear sight with long elevation screw. This particular sporting rifle was built in 1873 as an individual order for William Burritt. Most Sharps  1874 sporting rifles were sold in groups to wholesale and retail sporting goods dealers.
