Description:
Charles Daly Diamond Quality lightweight 12 gauge SxS Prussian made shotgun by H A Lindner.  Charles Daly was a US company that at the turn of the 20thcentury imported fine shotguns to compete with the Parkers, L C Smiths and Fox shotguns of the day.  Many aficionados concur that the Lindner made guns were the finest or among the finest of the era.  This gun exemplifies being the finest; from the lengthened (Daly patent) Anson & Deeley action, to 4 fasteners (two underlug, one square concealed crossbolt and sideclips); making it a mechanical marvel.  Aesthetically the engraving is nothing short of magnificent with profuse scroll coverage, full borders, engraved fences, engraved top & bottom tang, engraved top lever and a pheasant on the bottom of the frame.  Then there is the handsome walnut stock and forearm with beautifully cut checkering; an ebony forearm tip, Deeley release; a signature ebony insert in the round knob grip and the horn butt plate and a ¼” right hand cast.  Stock dimensions are:  14 1/8” LOP, 1 ½” DAC, 2 ½” DAH, with slight right hand cast.  The 28” Excelsior Witten barrels have 2 ½” chambers and are 28” long with perfect bores; standard .725” bore diameter in each with nominal wall thickkness of .030".  Chokes are .015” (Modified) in the right barrel and .036” (extra Full) in the left barrel. Standard features are double triggers automatic ejectors and automatic safety.  This gun was made in the early 1900's and experts believe the manufacturing date to be 1905 +/-.  The gun is mechanically perfect and cosmetically very fine.  The barrels have 95% thinning blue with a few spots pitting on the outside noticeable under close examination.  The frame has traces of colors visible in spots otherwise the finish has taken on a soft grey patina.  The wood is excellent.  As Lindner Daly's go this is an extremely rare example of a Lightweight 12 gauge, weighing-in at only 6 lbs. 2 oz.!! It feels very light and agile between the hands. Great bird gun, great example of a Lindner Daly and simply a “great gun”.
