Factory grooved for scope. Most younger shooters are not aware of these interesting guns from the 60's or before; avail at the time in 22 H and 30 30 provided an inexpensive choice in a rifle for a young hunter (as i recall they were about $ 39.00 at the time when new). Also avail but rarely found in 32-20, 30 40 Craig and possibly 25 20 (as i recall) Single shot break action; some had interchangeable shotgun barrels, but this one does not. (It is believed that thee will accept a Savage model 220 shotgun barrel without special fitting. Mod. 220 barrels are often found avail for sale making a nice gift for a young shooter....adding perhaps a 30 30 barrel, and a shotgun barrel) Overall condition is very good with much case color remaining and no meaningful marks or flaws to wood or metal other than one scrape underside of receiver. This is one of the later guns grooved to accept a scope (a real plus feature). The scope which is included is an inexpensive El Paso Weaver 4x .22 type scope: these were not great scopes but this one is uncommonly clear and bright. It could easily be replaced with a more substantial scope (we have many vintage period correct used scopes in stock if buyer wishes to upgrade after the ) This gun is very tight and has not been used much. The safety is conveniently located on the upper tang. These are very desirable and not too often encountered in 22 Hornet.
