Description:
The Ruger Redhawk revolver was introduced in 1979 as Ruger’s flagship .44 Magnum double action revolver. Its design featured a reinforced Security Six frame and longer cylinder than most competitors, allowing hand loaders to use hot loaded .44 Magnum rounds. Loaders could either use a heavier powder charge or heavier, and therefore longer, bullet without compromising the powder load or bullet weight, or combination thereof. Another characteristic of the Redhawk’s design that allowed for stronger loads was that a latch was placed in the crane, to firmly lock the cylinder at front and rear, a feature that had not been seen since Smith & Wesson discontinued their triple lock design in 1915. The Ruger Redhawk has since become popular among hunters and trappers as a bear defense gun alongside the Super Redhawk.
This Redhawk revolver is chambered for the .44 Remington Magnum but will also chamber and fire the shorter .44 Smith & Wesson Special. It has a 7.5” barrel with a red ramp front sight, however, the adjustable rear sight has been removed and a Thompson Center Lobo 1.5x scope has been mounted in its place. The grips are textured hard wood and the finish is a satin stainless. The original rear sight and a spare scope mount are in a plastic bag inside the box. The Redhawk comes with the original box, the outer box, and a manual. There is some minor finish wear which is shown in the pictures above. For someone looking for a strong, durable, .44 Magnum-revolver for protection from large predators or just having fun at the range, the Ruger Redhawk is an excellent choice.
