This is one cool Anschutz Model 54 Match! I'm not sure we have had one like this in decades. From what we have been able to determine it appears to be a first year production Model 54 Match made in 1954. The serial number is 02350, and the top of the receiver is stamped with the pre-WW2/wartime Anschutz logo consisting of the initials "JGA" in a cross pattern surrounded by a double circle. Anschutz changed their logo away from this design in 1955 after the famous German boxer Max Schmeling suggested a more "dynamic" design. The Model 54 Match was Anschutz's very best production single shot .22 target rifle. They quickly earned a reputation for extreme accuracy, and of course maintained the Anschutz reputation for excellent build quality and fit and finish. This beautiful rifle is in excellent condition overall. The original factory blue finish rates a 97 to 98% with only some very tiny handling marks visible under close inspection. The 25.5" inch barrel has a minty bright bore. The rifling still has prominent lands and grooves and there is zero evidence of pitting or erosion. The factory match grade checkered Walnut stock is also in great shape overall. There are a few spots with some minor scratches as you can see in the pictures, but they do not detract much from the attractive appearance of this high quality stock. The checkered panels are still clean with crisp lines, and the stock is free from cracks or repairs. The stock features a palm swell in the pistol grip, a carved cheek piece on the buttstock, sling swivels, a hard rubber buttplate, and a slotted forearm for an option hand stop. The rifle wears a set of Anschutz Olympic/Match adjustable sights with a globe-style front sight. These iron sights are considered one of the finest sets of adjustable match grade sights made from this time period. Once zero is set there are pre-set positions for 50, 100, and 150 meters. This 54 Match has had the trigger upgraded to one of Anschutz's best adjustable match triggers which is currently installed, but also comes with the factory original adjustable trigger. While we have not tried the original trigger (and we are sure it is excellent too), the trigger that is currently installed is phenomenal. It is currently set extremely light, and it breaks like a glass rod! Everything works on this Anschutz 100% like the day it left the factory 64 years ago. The action is super smooth and locks up tight. The safety functions perfectly and locks the bolt closed when in the "on" position. This rifle is ready to go to the range! This Anschutz also comes with a optics mount and a Wolf spring kit. If you have been looking for a rimfire match rifle to take to the range and turn heads, this is it. This Anschutz Model 54 Match would be an excellent addition to any rimfire aficionado's collection.
