Description:
Here is an Alexander McGilvary, Harrisonburg, Va. longrifle that's just come to light. It is iron mounted with an engraved patchbox. The swamped barrel is 42" long and is about 50 cal. The half stock is curly maple an shows a few very old repairs. There is an old crack at the wrist. It does not go thru. There is no signature that you can see. It also has some brass screws in the tg and toe plate that should be steel. A few minor details taken care of would make this into a very good example.
