Description:
Fox AE 16 Gauge Side-by-Side
HIGH CONDITION, 28" KRUPP

General Specs: A.H. Fox, Year 1929, 16 Gauge, 6lbs 5oz, SxS
Serial Number: 302218

Ansley H. Fox got it right with the small-bore Fox, the smallest, most well-proportioned, most reliable of all the vintage American double shotguns.  If you examine a standard Parker or Featherweight L.C. Smith in 16 gauge they will tip the scales at 6 1/2 to 7 lbs.  This little Fox weighs just 6lbs. 5oz. and balances perfectly 1/8" ahead of the hinge pin.  The gun presented here for sale, sn302218 made in 1929, has 60% original case color, perfect screws, 100% blue, and nicely refinished original wood with modern stock dimensions and perfect checkering.  All parts are original to the gun except we replaced the old, rock hard pad.  With 28” Krupp Steel barrels choked IC/M and being #3 weight, they are robust, less likely to dent, and there is plenty of wall thickness for the heavier loads we may want to shoot in late season upland hunts.  Fox ejector small bores in excellent condition are difficult to find in today's market place as all the good ones have been tucked away for the owner's pleasurable use, investment in tangible assets, and to hand down to the next generation.  Because of this, prices have gone up significantly over the last few years and will continue to do so.  You all know I handle A LOT of fine shotguns and Fox is simply the best gun in the field of the main 6 American makers in most knowledgeable gunner’s opinions.  What an attractive gun in very high condition with no issues.  A rare find in a world where most vintage double guns have had significant alterations, lots of wear and tear, terrible stock dimensions, and don’t have any “curb appeal”.  This gun does and if you compare it intelligently against others being offered for sale, this gun will be your choice.  Thanks for looking!
