Description:

EXQUISITE Ottoman Turkish SHISHANA Miquelet Rifle

With Gorgeous Gold & Silver Décor

Here we present an antique Ottoman Turkish Shishana Miquelet Rifle, made circa the late 18th Century. This rifle is of distinct design. The rear of the stock is quite angular and blocky and rises dramatically to meet the breech of the barrel. This rifle is trimmed throughout with silver bands with nice detail work. The top and bottom around the stock has been wrapped in intricately sculpted silver. The barrel is octagonal with 7-groove rifling and is handsomely inlaid with gold. The rear sight has 4 apertures that serve as graduations for various distances. The full length forestock is tipped in horn. The trigger is a ball-type with no trigger guard. The lock is of the miquelet-type. There is one remaining sling swivel on the left side. It comes with a very beautiful powder horn, made of horn and wrapped in hammered brass and silver. A very fine and fitting accoutrement for this rifle. This would have been a very fine rifle for a soldier, perhaps one coming from or having earned prestige. A beautiful piece of art and a fine weapon.

The overall condition is very good. The iron surfaces have a dark patina. The gold work on the barrel is virtually complete. The silver décor is dark with age. The engravings are clear and beautiful. The stock is beautifully grained and solid. The horn tip is split. The ramrod has been lost over time. The bore is dark, dusty, and well-rifled. The action is functional, though a bit stiff.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 31-3/4 inches.
