Description:

Inv. 6246

Colt 1914 Marina Argentina (NOT MODELO ARGENTINA) Cal. .45acp , Ser. C 63XX.

Please note the Colt Commercial serial is a medium 4 digits. This shipment of 621 model 1911 guns is most probably the first foreign government sale of the 1911 and is not to be confused with the three later shipments. One in 1916 for 100 guns, 1919, 400 guns and lastly, the very common 1927 Modelo Argentina contract for 10,000 guns.

I repeat, the very first contract of 621 guns are marked by Colt, MARINA ARGENTINA. This is the first one I have ever seen.

The author, J.C. Harrison, of U.S. Pistols & Revolvers 1909-1945 - in his coverage of the first shipments of Colts - states on page 163 that he has never even seen one these.

It is reported that the first lot of 1914s were delivered directly to the Argentine battleships that were being built here for them at the time. This is indeed an extremely rare Colt 1911. It is the 62XX Commercial 1911 made. What a find for the serious collector. Sometime during Argentine's ownership, all Argentine Colts were Parkerized and fitted with new grips.

The safety lever and take down lever are in the original blue. Remarkably there are no rust spots, nicks, pin pricks or rub mark to be found anywhere.  Not even the usual takedown lever scratch.

Ultimately, the guns were sold to an American importer who then sold them to the public. According to Mr. Harrison, they were sold as surplus in the early 1960s. This book was published in 1992 and, I repeat, "None have been observed by the author" and all three are extremely rare.

Certainly, the first contract of only 621 guns in 1914 is by far the rarest. The condition is really super. The Parkerizing is about 99% with just some sharp edge silvering. All parts are proper. The grips are the correct double diamond type. They show little wear but do have some flattened points and a few surface dings.

The barrel is stamped with a slanted R. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and just a touch of frosting. The gun comes with one magazine stamped Colt 45 Auto.

This is about as rare as a Colt 1911 commercial can get.....$4750
