Description:
Colt model 1855 revolving military rifle. Manufactured 1856-1864, serial #3537, matching. Five-shot, .56 caliber fluted cylinder, the barrel is a smooth-aged brown with faded blue showing through, nice faded blue at semi-octagon breech. 31-3/16" round barrel with semi-octagon breech. Original 2-leaf rear sight. Other metal components are a smooth, untouched pewter-grey patina with a mix of brown. Topstrap clearly stamped "COL. COLT HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.", left side of frame with "COLT'S PATENT" and date. Mechanics are tight and crisp. Wood overall is smooth and exceptional, free of any cracks, dings, nicks. There is a period wood plug at the wrist, extremely well-done, hardly noticeable. Correct buttplate with cleaning rod compartment. Complete with original sling swivels and ramrod. Colt revolving rifles are more difficult to obtain than a Henry rifle, here is one in exceptional condition overall.
