Antique REMINGTON Rolling Block No. 1 SR CARBINE
Nice 19th Century Military Saddle Ring Carbine
Here we present an antique Remington Rolling Block No. 1 Military Saddle Ring Carbine, made circa the 1870s in Ilion, New York. The Remington Rolling Block had a sturdy, simple action that was relatively inexpensive, just what many governments wanted in the latter half of the 19th Century. They were popular with civilians as well.
This specimen bears the original saddle ring on the left side of the frame. The Remington address and patent dates as late as 1874 are located on the top tang. The top of the butt stock is unit marked “3/19/1”. The rear left of the barrel is marked “B” and the underside of the barrel is marked “V” and “P”.
The overall condition is good. The metal surfaces have a light gray patina. The markings are clear. The walnut stock shows much use and is still intact. The bore is well-rifled and clean, with a frosted appearance. The action is strong. Here is a short, handy cavalry carbine from Remington!
