Description:
"National Park Scene - Western Panorama". By Ila McAfee (1897-1995). Oil on canvas; original frame 2 1/2" wide - 19 species. Ila studied art at Colorado State, ASL & NAD. She then painted murals in Chicago under James E. McBurney, and later painted all the murals in the Gunnison, CO, post office. In 1926 she married the landscape painter Elmer Turner, and moved to Taos. Ila paints mainly animals, wild and domestic. She has a profound understanding of animals - not a painting lacks one. Her portraits of horses are so recognizable that one knows the originals when one sees them. We understand this painting was commissioned for one of the old lodge homes, Glacier or Yellowstone. Well framed.
