The Winchester Model 12 is perhaps the finest pump action shotgun ever designed. Winchester came out with the gun in 1912 and more than 50 years later stopped the production of the Model 12 as we know it in 1964 after the production of over 2 million guns. The fit and finish of the Model 12 required much hand work by skilled workers. The metal finishing was always first rate and standards were held high in every facet of production. As time wore on, it was evident that the Model 12 could not be produced profitably and like most of the great Winchesters, 1964 was the end of the production. The Model 12 was produced in many different grades and configurations, from simple Field Grade guns to elaborately engraved guns with exhibition wood and gold inlays. The Model 12 was a winner in the Skeet and Trap fields all the decades it was in production and still winning tournaments today. The Pigeon Grade encompassed the finest Winchester could produce with hand polished parts, upgraded wood and checkering, jeweled bolt and carrier, and options that could be specified by the customer. The Pigeon Grade was a low production gun and has been sought after by collectors and shooters alike for it beauty and special features. This gun was built as a Pigeon Grade Skeet gun, shipped between 1961 and 1964, and saw little use as it retains 99% condition overall. The 26” vent rib barrel is choked WS1 (Skeet 1 choke) and retains most all of the original blue and has crisp sharp lettering and barrel stamps. There are few light handling marks on the receiver and signs of use showing on the jeweled bolt, otherwise 99% blue. The wood is strongly figured and retains 99% of the original finish. This Model 12 is over 54 years old and shows near new. It is nice that it has seen a little careful use, so you can enjoy shooting some targets or upland game with the gun. Winchester guns have retained strong collector interest and the Model 12 Pigeon grade in high condition will continue to grow in value as they made a small number that still retain this kind of condition.
