Description:
Winchester Model 42 – vintage firearms - FACTORY FACTORY ORIGINAL SKEET GRADE, 2 ½” CHAMBER, RARE!

Description:
Winchester Model 42 .410 Gauge Shotgun
FACTORY ORIGINAL SKEET GRADE, 2 ½” CHAMBER, RARE GUN!

General Specs: Winchester, Year 1952, .410 Gauge, 6lbs 2oz, Pump Shotgun
Serial Number: 111353

The Model 42 is an icon in the ranks of Winchester firearms, made in the days of the highest quality control and hand fitted parts.  The Model 42 was a flawlessly produced little pump gun, chambered only for the diminutive .410 shotgun shell.  In the 30 years of production that ran from 1933 to 1963, almost 160,000 of these fine guns were produced.  A very large percentage were Field Grade guns, and there were also Skeet Grades, Trap Grades, and the Deluxe Grade.  There were just over 5000 Skeet Grades ever produced, or about 3% of total production.  That makes a Model 42 Skeet Grade gun scarce, but not rare, right?  THIS GUN IS A VERY RARE MODEL 42, ONE OF ONLY A FEW DOZEN SHIPPED WITH A 28” SKEET CHOKED BARREL, 2 ½” CHAMBER, AND SOLID RIB.  Ned Schwing wrote the definitive book, “THE WINCHESTER MODEL 42”, and he specifically calls out the rarity of this gun on page 146.  He notes  there were only sixty-one 28” Skeet guns produced with a vent rib and 2 1/2” chamber.  He goes on to note that another variation, symbol number G4282SV, wasn’t even mentioned in the production figures, and that variation, like the vent rib version, was never popular.   His insinuation is that the Model 42, symbol number G4282SV (indicating a Skeet Grade, 28”, Skeet choked, 2 ½” chambered, solid rib gun) was produced in even lower numbers yet, likely the MOST-RARE MODEL 42 SKEET GRADE EVER MADE.  Even better is the condition of this gun, which is factory original, untouched, 98.5% with only slight wear on the hard edges, a bit near the trigger guard, and a few very slight handling marks on the barrel.  This IS NOT A RESTORED GUN, but a rare, original factory Model 42.  Of course, everything Winchester will always be collectible and values will always continue to climb, as they are not being made any longer.  Rarity and condition drives value, and this gun has plenty of both.  This is very likely the only time in your life you will have the opportunity to own such a fine and rare Winchester Model 42, so don’t miss out.  Thanks for looking!
