The S&W .38 Single Action First Model (Baby Russian) was made from 1876 to 1877, with 25,548 manufactured. The 5-shot top break revolvers were fitted with either a 3 1/4 or 4 inch barrel, spur trigger, pinned round blade front sight, fluted cylinder, blue finished guns were fitted with wood grips, nickel guns were fitted with monogram hard black or red rubber grips, and were chambered in .38 S&W. The blue finished guns are far less common, with only about 6,500 made (about a quarter of production). This gun is as described, is fitted with a 3 1/4 inch barrel and is blue finished with wood grips. It is all numbers matching (frame to barrel, top break latch, cylinder, and grips). Gun is in very fine condition, retaining 60-70% of its original blue finish, with most loss due to flaking on the barrel and cylinder. The hammer retains most of its original color case-hardened finish, with most fading on the top. The bore is bright with sharp rifling, with only a couple of small areas of spotting. The action is crisp and it operates perfectly with a tight lock-up. The wood grips are in excellent condition, with some very minor handling marks. Comes with its S&W box and cleaning rod/brush.
