Here we present an Antique Winchester Model 1894 Lever Action Saddle Ring Carbine, manufactured in 1898 in New Haven, Connecticut. Production lasted from 1894 to present day with over a million produced. Relatively few of that number were produced prior to 1899, the date set by the ATF that designates whether a firearm is considered an “antique” or not. The credit for the design of such a prolific firearm lies with John Moses Browning. The model 1894 was the first Winchester rifle made for use with the new technology of smokeless powder. In all likelihood, more deer have been taken with the 1894 than any other.
This one features a tang-mounted peep sight. The top of the barrel is marked “MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN CONN. U.S.A.” The rear of the barrel is marked “30 W.C.F.”.
The overall condition is good. The metal surfaces bear a light gray patina. The markings are clear and legible. The butt stock was replaced long ago. The action is excellent. This one appears to have been there and done that and lived to tell the tale!
