Description:
As you can tell from my listings of exotic Mannlicher Schoenauers, it's time to thin the herd in my gun safe. The 8x68 is the king of the big game European cartridges and one heck of a slammer for US big game. This is the euro cousin to the Winchester 338 Mag and in my opinion, just a heck of a lot more interesting. I have hunted rocky mountain elk with both and they are indistinguishable, other than the unique novelty of the x68 rimless case design. I have settled on the 6.5 and 8mm magnums as my hunting rifles of choice for that reason. This rifle is in good shape and I believe to have also come from Alaska with its cousin the .338 Win Mag that I have listed at the same time. The metal and wood have some dings and rubs from working hard in the Alaskan wilderness. There is also a small crack (as pictured) in the stock behind the cutout for the bolt handle. This crack is cosmetic and does not affect the performance of the rifle. The bore is in excellent condition but some of the bluing has dings, also pictured. The triggers are crisp and everything functions perfectly. There are Redfield style mounts and rings with plenty of clearance for a modern scope. This rare caliber rifle would be a great candidate to refinish or just keep it as-is because it will never lose value. Also, I have an immaculate replacement stock from an MCA that would pair nicely with this rifle. If you're interested, I would be willing to include it for an additional $450, which is what I paid for it.
