Description:

Good condition original antique US Model 1836 flintlock pistol in .54 caliber. Mechanically functions fine and was  possibly converted to percussion by one of the Southern Armories. Manufactured by Robert Johnson of Middletown, Connecticut in 1839, and so marked on the lock.  R. Johnson only produced 18,000 Model 1836 pistols. Metal finish has some scattered gray and brown and some scattered pitting. Smooth bore is good with some pitting. Stock has original finish and shows some wear and handling marks. Left side of stock has a faint  inspector cartouche. Old repair to the left side of the gun.  The hammer works fine in both the half cock and the full cock position. Complete with original swiveling ramrod. A good honest original flintlock Model 1836 pistol for your collection with an interesting history. Probably saw use in either the war with Mexico or the Civil War.
