Description:
Serial #28252, 8.15 x 46R, 30 1/4" octagon barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a handsome, German-made rifle that retains 90-92% of the original blue on the barrel with only some mild silvering along the high edges, and some thin streaks of gray near the breech. The frame has extensive floral scroll engraving with faded, but still visible original color case-hardening throughout. The ornate lever has a generally bright gray patina, but does have some scattered spots of dark, pinprick pitting as well. A very small and unobtrusive import mark is present on the underside of the barrel just ahead of the forend tip. The forend is wedge-fastened, and the European walnut has a few minor handling marks along its surface, as well as repaired cracks on both sides where it meets the receiver. The buttstock is typically complex with raised, angular cheek-piece, and hooked butt; while the wood is in very good shape, despite the fact that there are a series of repairs on the left side of the wrist. The rifle retains the adjustable front sight, however no rear sight is provided. The “stecherspanner" type action, while superficially similar in appearance to other falling block actions, uses the rear set trigger to cock the hammer in addition to setting the trigger. It is exceptionally smooth, and many of the most successful European shooters prefer this type of action for competitive match use. This is a nicely made rifle that has one of the best schutzen actions available, and rates about very good condition overall. FFL or C&R
