Description:
Serial #5884, .32-40, 31" heavy octagon barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a handsome rifle, built on a 44 1/2 action with Ross rifling, that has retained 97-98% of an excellent, reapplied rust blue finish on the barrel with some minor silvering at the muzzle and edges of the barrel facets. Crisp Stevens markings are present at the breech, and a small and unobtrusive import mark is present on the underside just ahead of the forend tip. Both a target globe front sight, and Vernier tang sight are installed, but the rifle is also drilled and tapped for scope blocks. The frame has delicate floral scrollwork engraving with 97-98% of the original color case-hardening remaining, and the full-loop underlever retains a similar amount of color case-hardening. The mechanics are tight and functional, and the double-set triggers have a crisp let-off. The checkered walnut forend with schnabel tip is in fine shape with only a few minor handling marks in the lovely original oil finish, and the beautifully figured schutzen style buttstock has a checkered, pistol-grip, rounded cheek-piece, and case-hardened hooked butt. This is a splendid Stevens “schutzen Junior" in fine condition, and would make a wonderful addition to any collection. FFL or C&R
