Description:
The Ruger Super Redhawk revolver was introduced in 1987 as a replacement for Ruger’s Redhawk double action revolver. Its design featured a reinforced and enlarged GP100 frame, and like most Ruger revolvers, a longer cylinder than most competitors, allowing hand loaders to use hot loaded .44 Magnum rounds. Loaders could either use a heavier powder charge or heavier, and therefore longer, bullet without compromising the powder load or bullet weight, or combination thereof. Like the GP100 and Redhawk, the Super Redhawk used a latch in the crane, to firmly lock the cylinder at front and rear, providing a strong lock-up. The Super Redhawk has since become popular among hunters and trappers as a bear defense gun alongside the Super Redhawk. The Alaskan model was introduced in 2005 as more compact, bear defense gun for carry in the Alaskan wilderness. The Alaskan revolver is chambered for the .44 Remington Magnum but will also chamber and fire the shorter .44 Smith & Wesson Special. It has a 2.5” barrel with a red ramp front sight and adjustable rear sights. The grips are rubber for better control during firing and the finish is a satin stainless for resistance to the elements. Though the revolver shown above is pre-owned, it is practically brand new. There are no powder burns on the front of the cylinder or the back of the barrel. The bore exhibits little residue if any. There is a small ding on the bottom of the barrel. The front sight was painted orange for easier sight pickup. It comes with the original box, manual, and a Galco holster. For someone looking for a strong, durable, .44 Magnum-revolver for protection from large predators while making long treks, the Alaskan is a fine choice.
