Description:
What is interesting about these guns is that unless you are in the know on Rolling Blocks, the Whitney and the Remington are almost indistinguishable. Of course you see more of the Remington Rolling blocks. This one is the Whitney Arms Co. which is marked on the upper tang. It is my understanding they call this one the style 2. Cal 40-60. This gun features dlx pistol grip wood, case colored frame and 28" oct bbl. This would be a mid-weight bbl with aging blue with most blue present. Number 406 on the bottom flat of the bbl. What that is for? Front sight is a blade style and looks like it was made by a gunsmith. Nice job was done. I believe the rear sight is an original Whitney Arms sight. Elevator is also quite unique and I believe that is correct also. Frame has all case colors present except a little by the lower tang. They are sharp vivid case colors! Wood is in exceptional condition. Light shrinkage at the toe and a little at the frame. Forearm is a nice piece of wood. Light chipping on the right side. The Rolling Block is a fine rifle no matter the manufacture. If you want something different and scarce, get a Whitney Rolling Block.
