Description:
This is a nice early-issue World War 2 Japanese Type 38 rifle manufactured by Koishikawa Arsenal (Tokyo) with an intact mum, dust cover, cleaning rod, and some nice Japanese writing on the buttstock. This Type 38 has several mismatched parts including the bolt and dust cover, but it looks as if it has been together for a very long time this way. All of the parts have a consistent patina and appearance, and all of the parts are early production variations. This Type 38 is not import marked and certainly is a veteran bring-back trophy rifle. As you can see from the pictures there is a great deal of original blue finish still intact, and some traces of the straw finish on some of the small parts. The whole rifle has a nice honest and uniform look to it. The bore is dark with light pitting throughout, but the rifling is still prominent and has nicely defined lands and grooves. The stock is in good shape overall and is free from cracks or repairs. It shows wear and tear consistent with an issued and battle-used Japanese military rifle. We have not been able to translate the Japanese characters on the stock but it would be quite interesting to find out what they mean. Everything on this Type 38 works exactly as it was designed to and should be a nice shooter as well as an investment. If you have been looking for a good example of one of Japan's main battle rifles of World War 2 here is your chance to get an early production Type 38 at a good price.
