Description:
SOLD...Antique 1893 Marlin 38-55 octagon barrel. Here is an antique 1893 Marlin. S/N 145041 and made in 1897. In the very sought after 38-55 caliber. Has the standard 26” octagon barrel. The bore is very good with strong and deep rifling all the way through. Shows some minor roughness down in the grooves but no breaks in the rifling at all. NO rings or bulges. It shoots great with proper sized cast bullets or jacketed bullets. The mechanics are excellent. It feeds, fires and ejects with no issues. The metal is smooth medium to darker brown patina with no pitting. The markings are excellent. Has the original Marbles # 2 front sight but the ivory or brass bead is missing. The rear sight is the rare full buck horn style. Both sights are early period of use and could be original to the gun. The sights you could order for these guns are endless so hard to say but neither one of them look like a newer replacement sight at all. The wood is very nice on this gun. The forearm fits tight and even to the metal all around. NO spits or cracks and just shows a few very minor dings and scratches. The butt stock shows a little honest wear at the receiver and is undersized in this area but fits tight and even to the metal at the upper and lower tangs and also the butt plate. NO splits or cracks and just a few minor dings and scratches. Nice looking wood on this one with no issues. The screw heads are still sharp and clean and not all burred up and show very little turning. Just an all around nice and honest antique 93 Marlin. These are harder to find in the antique S/N range at reasonable prices. Here is one for your collection and a great shooter. $50 insured shipping.
