Description:
Easily one of the cleanest Marlin Golden 39A's we have had in years, this 1966 vintage example is a real beauty.  Introduced in 1957 and manufactured until 1987, the Golden 39A was Marlin's flagship .22 lever action rifle that featured a gold finished trigger and factory installed sling swivels in addition to the normal 39A features.  It was a commercial success and quickly earned the reputation as one of the best rimfire .22 rifles ever designed and produced in the U.S.  The Golden 39A was not only very attractive, but equally as well made, reliable, and supremely accurate.  This example was made in 1966 and has the very desirable oil-finished stock that was discontinued in 1970.  This rifle is all original and beautiful, with 97% + of the original gloss blue factory finish remaining.  The only areas that show any finish wear are the spots where metal contacts other metal when the action is worked.  These are primarily on the sides of the lever near the receiver and the sides of the hammer.  The bore is spectacular on this Golden 39A.  The "Microgroove" rifling is spotless and sharp, and there is no pitting or imperfections visible of any kind.  The original Walnut tock set is in great shape overall.  It is free from cracks, repairs, or signs of carry wear, and only has 2 scratches on the left side of the buttstock that detract from the attractive overall appearance.  As you can see in the pictures these scratches are not deep and likely a result of being banged into in a safe or some other storage.  The factory white spacers are still nice and clean and so are the black pistol grip cap and Marlin branded buttplate.  The buttplate and pistol grip cap are in excellent condition and nice and tight to the wood.  Everything on this Marlin Golden 39A works 100% like the day it left the factory.  The action is smooth and all of the controls function perfectly.  It comes with a nice classy leather sling that fits this Marlin perfectly and is easy to adjust.  If you have been looking for one of these American classics this example would be an excellent choice to add to your collection.  It is very seldom that we see a Golden 39A that is 52 years old in such excellent condition, and the value of these rifles seems to keep climbing every year!
