"US INDIAN POLICE/INDIAN AGENCY" Dated 1889 Rifle
Percussion Half Stock Plains Rifle with Badge
Here we present an antique Half-Stock Rifle with “U.S. Indian Agency” and “Indian Police” markings, originally made circa the 1850s. This rifle would have originally been made in the eastern United States prior to the American Civil War. It would have made a vital companion to someone going West over the plains, for both hunting and defense.
The lock is marked “GOULCHER”. The right side of the stock is marked “U.S. INDIAN AGENCY” and the left side is marked “U.S. INDIAN POLICE”. The right side of the stock also has a badge marked “INDIAN/U.S./POLICE/1889”. The stock has a pewter fore end cap with a brass band behind for support. The stock has also been decorated by round iron tacks.
The overall condition is good. The metal surfaces are dark with age. The markings are clear and legible. The stock shows lots of use with some chipping and a short crack at the bottom of the wrist. The bore is clean with sharp rifling. The action is strong.
Barrel is 28-1/2 inches.
