PRUSSIAN Antique Model 1809 FLINTLOCK Musket
Unit Marked & Dated 1817
Here we present an antique Prussian Model 1809 Flintlock Musket with Bayonet, manufactured in 1817. The development and adoption of the Model 1809 was the result of France’s successful invasion in 1806. Prussia’s previous flintlock musket, the Model 1801, was found inadequate. The 1809 was introduced in the massive .75 caliber bore and based on the French 1777 Charleville.
This musket is dated “1817” on the top left of the barrel, which puts it being issued 2 years after the defeat of Napoleon. Many of these muskets were updated to percussion, but not this one. This musket features many acceptance and proof markings throughout, but two unit markings stand out. The first is on the butt plate and reads “12 C” and “32.L.W.P./153”. “153.” is repeated on the top of the barrel. The other unit-style marking is found on the back of the trigger guard: “B.31.12.” and “6.” The lock is marked “S/H”.
The overall condition is good. The metal surfaces are dark with age. The markings are legible. The bore is dark and in good shape. The stock shows appropriate wear for a 201-year-old military musket. The action is strong.
