It has been 20 years since Smith & Wesson made the .38 Special Model 13, and this 13-1 variation was only made between 1974 and 1977 making this particular Model 13 at least 30 years old. This Model 13-1 has the sought-after pinned barrel and counter-bored cylinder, which were eliminated in the early 1980's. This Smith & Wesson is 100% original and in excellent overall condition. The factory blue finish rates 96 to 97% with only some very tiny handling marks visible under close inspection, a faint drag line on the cylinder, and some speckling on the grip straps. As you can see from the close-up photos of the grip straps, it does not detract much from the attractive and clean look of this S&W. The color-case hardened hammer and trigger are beautiful with lots of bright color still showing. The bore is superb in this Model 13-1. It is bright and clean, and the rifling still looks new with sharp lands and grooves. The cylinder bores are equally as nice. The factory original checkered Walnut grips are in excellent condition. They are free from cracks, repairs, and soiling, and they are serial numbered to the gun. The S&W medallions are nice and tight to the wood, and the checkering is still crisp. The mechanics of this S&W are like-new, the action is perfectly "in time". The action is smooth in double or single action modes of operation and all of the controls work perfectly. This Model 13-1 would be an excellent addition to any Smith & Wesson collection. It seems that these early production Model 13's are becoming harder and harder to find in collectible condition.
