Description:
This is a unique and attractive vintage custom Ruger No.1 chambered in .30-06 caliber complete with matching custom scope rings. This Ruger No.1 was manufactured in 1978 and appears to have been customized with engraving sometime shortly after. The engraving is classic floral and scroll engraving on the receiver, action lever, trigger guard area, chamber area of the barrel, barrel-band sling swivel base, and the front sight. On the right side of the receiver there is a nice engraving of a Bobcat, while on the left side of the receiver there is a engraved Lynx. The finish on this rifle still looks good and shows a lot of gloss. It would have been refinished after the engraver was done many decades ago. While there are small handling marks on this No.1 consistent with a rifle that has been carried and hunted with, it has been well cared for. You can see these small handling marks and the "plum" patina of the receiver in the pictures provided. This plum color is more pronounced on the receiver due to the specific heat treat of the steel which differed from the barrel. The bore in the 22" inch barrel is excellent. The rifling still looks prominent and sharp, and there is no pitting, bulges, dents, or imperfections of any kind visible. The front sight has been engraved like the rifle and has a gold inlaid border that matches the rifle. The rear sight is mounted on the factory quarter-rib and is a standard flip-up adjustable blade. This custom No.1 still has the original factory checkered Walnut stock set which is in very good condition overall. There are no cracks, repairs, or major damage visible. Both the forearm and buttstock show only minor wear and handling marks consistent with the rest of the rifle. The checkered panels on the pistol grip and forearm are still crisp and clean, and the original Ruger-branded metal pistol grip cap and the red Ruger-branded recoil pad are in-place and tight to the stock. The length of pull is 13.5" inches to the end of the pad. As mentioned previously, this custom No.1 comes with a set of factory Ruger scope rings that have been customized to match the rifle. Both rings have an inlaid gold diamond on the top to match the gold barrel band and the gold front sight accents. Everything on this Ruger No.1 works 100% like it was designed to. The action works smoothly and goes into battery perfectly and all of the controls work as they should. The versatile and widely available .30-06 chambering should handle any game in North America, big or small. If you have been looking for a one-of-a-kind rifle to take into the woods or to the range, this classy 1978 custom Ruger No.1 would be a great choice!
