Netherlands’ First Smokeless Rifle Made 1897
Here we present an antique Steyr Dutch Model 1895 Army Mannlicher Rifle in 6.5x53mmR, made in 1897. The Model 1895 was the Netherlands’ first smokeless powder rifle, succeeding the Beaumont rifles which were modified to keep them relevant as long as they were.
Both the receiver and the stock are marked “STEYR 1897”.
The overall condition is fair. The metal surfaces bear 85% of the original finish. The markings are clear. The stock shows typical military handling. The forestock has been duffle cut. The barrel band and nose cap have been lost. The bore is very good with strong rifling. The action is strong.
