It has highly figured walnut in the pistol gripped butt stock that has the correct Winchester embossed hard rubber grip cap and checkered pistol grip that retains fine checkering and only one very minor hairline/age crack coming back from the upper tang for about two inches (not in the checkering) and probably just caused by the burl drying a bit- very minor. Wood to metal fit is very tight. Exc. forearm and tight mechanics. Receiver shows fine deep blue with some flaking/ageing on the edges and small scattered areas with overall a fine blue appearance. Barrel and mag also retain fine blue with normal areas of brown and ageing mixing. Again, mostly good deep blue overall on the barrel and receiver. Has a Lyman tang sight with patent dates of 1879 and 1884 that has the little folding aperture in the eye piece intact. Also has a buckhorn rear barrel sight with small blade/bead front sight. Bore is dark with rifling, but would benefit from a thorough scrubbing out to be good to very good. Sharp barrel markings and has the early correct upper tang marking with 1888 and 1892 patent dates (and NO extra holes!). Barrel and receiver have no proof marks which is correct for a pre-1908 manufactured Model 1890 rifle ( for Centerfire rifles proof marks were usually stamped after 1905).
