Look for the gold '55 Chevy road sign! ~Trades and offers are always considered~ Rare & Charming British East India Company Flintlock Blunderbuss Swivel Gun/Rail Gun with Original Yolk, approx. 10 Ga. with 2" flared muzzle, mfg. 1817. This has to be one of the best looking blunderbuss naval guns we have offered. This gun has tons of character and truly has the "look". If only it could talk! The barrel measures 15 5/8" long and is very thick walled. The lock is dated "1817" at the rear with the East India Company Lion trademark stamped ahead of the hammer accompanied by the number "2" beneath a crown. Overall the metal has a rough dark plum patina throughout retaining a wonderfully untouched and original appearance. Likewise the wood shows extensive wear and use with fantastic patina. The stock features a checkered wrist and has has a coat of red paint applied during the period of use, much of which still remains having turned a deep red/brown color. There is an old break through the wrist which has been repaired with a screw through the top. The crack begins behind the lock and extends on the left side forward to the yolk with a 1 1/2" long chip just below the comb. There are several additional age cracks and checks in the buttstock with cracking along the left side of the forearm and moderate loss near the left side of the muzzle. Simple iron buttplate and triggerguard with turned iron ramrod pipes. The rear tip of the triggerguard tang is missing as well as the original ramrod and forend cap/band. The gun is fitted with a massive swivel yolk and is wrapped with leather. The leather is absolutely original from the period and shows consistent wear. The forged 10" spike appears to be a properly made later replacement while the yolk itself is original. The hammer goes to full cock securely and seems to have a strong mainspring yet only falls to half cock when the trigger is pulled. The frizzen jumps forward and snaps shut as it should. The frizzen spring appears to be a replacement while all other lock components are original. The gun is accompanied by a large old block of wood for display. This blunderbuss really makes a statement and will be an impressive focal point for any gun room or den.
