Description:
L.C. Smith Crown Grade 20 Gauge Shotgun
28" IC/F, 6 1/4lbs

General Specs: LC Smith, Year 1925, 20 Gauge, 6lbs 4oz, SxS
Serial Number: 81771

The Crown Grade Elsie; one of the finest, most elegant American doubles ever produced…a “MADE TO ORDER” shotgun, with only 800 made in all gauges, and only 145 made in 20-gauge.  If you consider loss and damage, there are likely less than 125 Crown Grade 20’s left on the planet.  I love the Crown Grade Elsie, as it has some of the most artful engraving of all the vintage American double guns regardless of grade or maker.  Just look at the fine scroll, the floral bouquets, the multi-faceted border work, and the oval vignettes with the exquisite deep chiseled dogs on point in a field setting…simply stunning engraving.  And of course, the gold inlaid crown on the top lever is icing on the cake!  This Crown Grade has some of the most clear and detailed engraving I have seen, clearly superior to most that were ever produced.  The details on the dogs are precise and raised noticeably from the shaded background.  When you pair the engraving with the delightfully sculpted frame, beaded fences, and sculpted forend iron you can see that this was a high-grade gun built for the upper echelon of gun buyers of that period.  This fine Crown, serial number 81771 built in 1925, comes with a letter of authentication from the L.C. Smith Collectors Association showing it was ordered and shipped with 28” barrels, Hunter One Trigger, and ejectors.  The gun is configured exactly as when it left the factory and is in remarkable condition.  The barrels and wood have been professionally restored, the action and forend iron have been completely stripped to their smallest parts, cleaned in our Ultrasonic cleaner, all parts inspected for function and soundness, then properly lubricated and reassembled, making this a “VFI CERTIFIED GUN” with a 90-day mechanical warranty.   The single selective trigger works flawlessly, the ejectors are strong and well timed, the trigger pulls are crisp, and the barrels are tight on the breech face with the lever well right of center.  The 28” barrels have 100% rust blue, tight ribs, choked IC/F with mirror bright bores, with nicely engraved barrel wedges and a ring of engraving at the muzzles…nice touch!  The wood has been nicely restored with a hand-rubbed oil finish, checkering recut to perfection, with no cracks or chips.  Weighing a svelte 6 1/4lbs. and balanced so nicely in hand, this is the ultimate upland or vintage clays gun for those that love the art of the fine American double guns from days gone by.  Keep in mind that the Crown Grade was a gun fitted and tuned by the finest craftsman and a gun that was built to last for generations to come.  They don’t make them like this any longer, and due to the rarity, quality of craftsmanship, high grade, and ultimate usefulness of this gun, it will continue to grow in value as an investment quality shotgun all the while you enjoy its use.  This gun is priced to sell, so don’t miss out on this great opportunity.  Thanks for looking!
