Description:
The Colt 1848 Baby Dragoon began production in 1848 and approximately 15,500 were manufactured.  The 5-shot revolvers were a scaled down version of the .44 Caliber Dragoons and were fitted with a 3, 4, 5, or 6 inch octagon barrel, most made without a loading lever, early guns had a Texas Ranger and Indian scene on their cylinder, later with a hold-up scene, and there were 5 Type's made.  This all numbers matching Baby Dragoon is a Type II with a Texas Ranger and Indian scene on the cylinder and without a loading lever.  What is unique about this Baby Dragoon is the 2 3/4 inch barrel and factory engraving.  This is one of two known that were factory engraved, making this Colt Baby Dragoon quite rare.  The barrel, cylinder, receiver, hammer, trigger, screws, and barrel wedge have lost all of their original finishes, turning a grey patina.  The trigger guard and back-strap retain about 20% of their original silver plate.  The cylinder scene is quite worn and cannot be made out.  The engraving on the barrel, receiver, trigger guard, and back-strap is nicely done and is mostly very visible except for some areas on the receiver, due to corrosion.  The grips have been refinished but still fit very well.  The bore has some areas of corrosion, but would be shootable, with visible rifling. The action functions great, with very good timing and tight lock-up.  A unique and attractive early Colt percussion revolver.                                                                   PRICE:    $11,750             We are Antique & Modern Firearms in Lexington, KY, dealer of fine firearms since 1974.   PH. 859-276-1419         We Buy, Sell and Trade Firearms & Knives.    Have a Individual FirearmFirearms Collection, or Firearms Estate to sell, let us know, we can buy or consignment sell it for you.       (sales at am-firearms)
