Description:
Wow this is an exceptionally beautiful and clean vintage Marlin Model 336.  This example is serial number 26076181 and was made in 1974 (100 minus the first two digits of serial number).  It is chambered in the popular and sought-after .35 Remington cartridge which has significantly more knock-down power than the more common 30-30 Winchester cartridge that the majority of Model 336's are chambered in.  It appears to have spent the vast majority of it's life in storage and appears to have been fired or carried VERY little.  As you can see in the pictures the original factory blue finish is beautiful and rates a solid 98%, you have to look very closely to find any tiny handling marks in the finish to account for the 2% deduction.  The factory gold finish on the trigger is also like-new and shows no wear or thinning.  The bore in this Marlin is pristine and bright.  The rifling still looks brand-new with sharp lands and grooves and zero imperfections whatsoever.  The internals are just as pristine as the exterior and there is no signs of wear or wiggle in/on any of the parts.  The original American Walnut stock set is particularly attractive with perfectly matched wood and some nice figure showing thru in places, and both the forearm and buttstock are in excellent condition overall.  They are completely free from cracks or repairs, and only show some small handling/storage marks.  The worst of these is a light scratch on the right side of the buttstock just behind the pistol grip, and a small scratch right at the rear of the forearm which we have examined under magnification to verify that it was not a small crack.  The original white spacer and black pistol grip cap and the white spacer and original Marlin-branded black plastic buttplate are both in excellent condition, perfectly fit, and tight to the wood.  The previous owner installed a barrel band sling swivel up top and a sling swivel stud in the buttstock in place of the white and black "bullseye" insert.  We have since removed these sling swivel studs and reinstalled a new "bullseye" insert.  I have added 3 new pictures to show the rifle without these sling swivels and close-up shots of those areas (pics #1, #24, #25)  This Model 336 functions 100% like-new just like the day it left the factory 44 years ago.  The action is smooth and crisp and locks into battery perfectly, and the trigger is very nice for a factory lever action rifle.  If you have been looking for a classy and attractive .35 Remington lever action rifle this 1974 Marlin Model 336 would be a superb choice.  It is not only an excellent investment for your collection, but you could carry it with pride into any hunting camp in the lower 48 and know that you have enough gun for any big game short of a Grizzly bear.
NOTE-- I noticed after taking the pictures that I had not tightened the lever screw back up after taking it down to look at the internals.  It has since been tightened.
