Browning B-25 Superlite Model
12Ga. Grade B2G. S/N# 863PMO2399. Date of MFG. 1980. This special custom ordered Belgium made 12Ga. Superlite tips the scales at a perfect 6lbs. 7oz. even! The barrels measure 27 ½”. This unique barrel length facilitates the fast but smooth mount and swing capabilities. This is a true bird hunters dream! Chokes are bottom barrel fixed Mod. With the top barrel set in with 3 thin walled Briley chokes. They are Mod. L. Mod. and Skeet. This gives the gun great versatility for both the field and clay’s.
The chambers are 2 ¾”. The Stock is of highly figured 3X French Walnut with bird’s eye and marbled highlights. The following photos will show its superb character. Stock dimensions are 1 ½” DAC, X 2 3/8” DAH, X 14 ½” LOP. This Superlite balances perfectly on the hinge pin giving excellent handling dynamics! The Swan Neck straight stock gives it a tasteful European accent. The engraving scene is the typical pheasant and duck offering of the B2G grade. However this gun is spectacularly executed in high relief. It is also signed by the engraver Sophie Purgal. She is now retired however she ranks as one of the top FN engravers of all time along with Funken, and Vrancken. Browning only allows its master engravers to personally sign their work. One can only imagine how many hours it took to create this functional work of art.
One has only to see later examples of this grade made five, ten or so years ago to see the stark difference in the engraving quality. It's stunning! They are flat with no relief. No depth. The scroll is abbreviated and shallow. Perhaps laser or machine etched. A nice piece of wood does not make a true treasure. Three day inspection period. Buyer assumes shipping, and insurance fees.
