Description:
This is an elegant, beautiful, and all-original antique .48 caliber flintlock Kentucky rifle.  It has not been re-converted and remains exactly how it was made circa 1810.  The top of the barrel was signed by the maker but is illegible at this point.  This Kentucky rifle has a beautiful full length Curly Maple stock with lots of beautiful figure and shows a classic stock profile associated with Reading, Pennsylvania made rifles.  The buttstock has some very nice patchbox work with the classic "Federal Eagle" engraved on the patchbox door.  The door still has nice spring pressure and stays in position open or closed.  There is a flash-hole pick mounted in the stock keel that is still present as well.  The original lock is still intact and shows a nice patina consistent with the rest of the rifle.  This Ky. rifle has an adjustable single set trigger that still sets, and a very nice engraved brass triggerguard.  The octagon barrel measures 40" inches long and the bore measures .48 caliber.  As mentioned before the makers signature is only partially visible on top of the barrel, but the original front and rear sights are still in place and fully intact. The brass thimbles holding the ramrod appear to be original as well.  This Kentucky rifle would be a great addition to antique firearms collection as an investment, and is beautiful enough to also be used to decorate a gun room or hang over a fireplace.  Every gun collection should have one of these iconic long guns that protected and fed our ancestors.
