WWII Nazi German ST. ETIENNE Model 1892 Revolver
Dated 1924 with Clamshell Shoulder Holster
Here we present a French Model 1892 Revolver, made in 1924 at the armory at St. Etienne. The Model 1892 was the standard issue sidearm for officers in the French military during the First World War. The Model 1892 revolver is a solid frame revolver with the cylinder on a separate frame swinging right for manual reloading. It was first fielded in 1893 and was prominent among French military officers and then later, the French police until the mid-1960s.
This one appears to have been captured or commandeered by German forces during World War II. The holster is a nice leather clamshell shoulder holster with a Nazi emblem. The interior of the holster is marked with a round stamp in red ink. There are other markings made by hand that appear to be “REIF” and “USA”, possibly made by an American GI after capture. The right side of the revolver’s frame is marked “MRE DE Armes ST. ETIENNE”. The top of the barrel is marked “S B/Mle. 1892” and “S 1924”.
The overall condition is fine. The original blue is 90% with nice straw colors. The markings are clear. The grips are in great shape. The bore is bright and shiny. The action is excellent, strong and crisp.
