Description:
Serial #2474, 7.63mm (.30 Mauser), 5 1/2" barrel with a good bore that has even freckling within the grooves. This pistol has all matching numbers and retains 90-92% of the original blue finish with some silvering along the exposed edges and bearing surfaces, and a cleaned area on the left side of the frame, center panel, where an inscription was purposefully removed. Most of the original bright nitre blue remains on the safety and rear sight slider, and much of it still remains on the extractor as well. There is no import mark present on the pistol. The walnut 23 groove grips are numbered to the gun on the inside, and are in very good condition with only minor wear and handling marks. The pistol is housed in its original wooden holster-stock that has a matching numbered iron, and numerous light handling marks and minor blemishes. The left side of the holster has faint, but legible name and date: “1/4/1919 (or 1949) / JAN / VILJO(EN)". The name Viljoen is a fairly common one in South Africa, where the previous owner of this pistol acquired it, however we have no further information. This is a great looking example of a highly desirable early Broomhandle, both with an uncommonly high amount of original finish remaining, and a very rare original holster-stock. It would make a splendid example for a collection. Antique
