Description:
This 1980 production Colt SP1 Carbine has all the early sought-after features and is in excellent all-original condition overall.  This Colt SP1 is serial number SP134418 which puts it's production in late 1980, 38 years ago.  It has apparently led a very easy life with the majority of it's time spent in storage and has been fired maybe a handful of times.  If not for some light handling marks on the barrel and some marring on the flash hider it could pass as having left the Colt factory last week.  The "early" features that set this Colt apart from the later models are: no fence on the magazine housing (slab side), no bolt forward assist, light "pencil" barrel, "birdcage" style flash hider, 2-position buttstock, and a large hinge pin.  The original gray parkerized finish on the receiver and upper receiver rates a solid 98%, and to find those 2% deductions you have examine it extremely close.  All of the original factory staked parts still have the factory applied black paint seal on them and are unmolested.  The exterior of the barrel still looks great overall, but has some light handling marks in the finish on it about halfway from the front sight post to the A2 flash hider.  The A2 flash hider also has some marring on the flats where it was removed at some point and re-installed without the crush/lock washer.  Our guess is that the marks on the barrel were made at the same time as the flash hider from gripping the barrel to remove the flash hider.  These can be seen in the close up pictures of that area, and as you can see they do not detract too much from the clean overall appearance of the carbine.  They could be touched up to blend-in but we will leave that up to the new owner.  The bore in this SP1 is bright and minty, with sharp and prominent rifling.  There is no pitting, erosion, or imperfections of any kind visible.  It is magnetic particle tested and chrome lined from Colt and stamped as such on top of the barrel, "C MP CHROME BORE".  The factory buffer tube, hardware, and collapsible stock are in excellent condition.  This SP1 has the early 2-position aluminum alloy stock with a factory baked-on black finish.  That glossy black finish is pristine and clean, and the buttstock release lever still has the proper spring pressure.  This Colt functions 100% like the day it left the factory.  All of the controls are crisp and function as they were designed to.  We have examined this SP1 inside and out and the interior parts are consistent with the exterior of the carbine, clean and tight with no wear.  This Colt SP1 Carbine comes with a factory original black sling installed on it in like-new condition.  If you have been looking for a collectible, investment worthy AR-15, this 1980 SP1 Carbine would be an excellent choice.  While seemingly all of the recent production AR15's have been going down in price, these early Colt SP1's continue to appreciate!    REDUCED! $1295
