Description:
(PENDING SALE)  This Phillip Reeb clamshell receiver double rifle in 8X57J was made between 1912 and 1916 and was made by the House Gunmaker to The Court of Crown Prince Frederick Wilhelm III, eldest son of German Kaiser Wilhelm II. The gold monogram appears to undicate it was made for a member of the Prussian Royal House of Hohenzollern. The gun is in very good to excellent condition with excellent bores. It is complete with Makers Case with Monogram on top plate and maker's logo inside. Contained are the original walnut covered brass cleaning rod with hand-filed jag, Voightlander SKOPAR scope in claw mounts, and original sling; the case is in very good condition for one of that age. The bores of the 8X57J rifle are excellent, and the lavish game scene engraving is flawless. There is a cartridge trap in the butt stock. This is a chance for the collector to own a unique historic firearm. The dark figured walnut stock is in very good condition with no cracks, and the blackening is very good and is starting to show some patina. There is no rust. The gun shoots well with a 196gr jacketed bullet at around 2,200 fps. Both triggers are set triggers. The gun is completely unaltered and original.
