Description:
Serial #104, 7.5mm Swiss, 29" heavy target barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a single-shot rifle, designed for Swiss National Match competition, and weighs 16 1/2 lbs. The metal retains 97-98% of the original bright blue finish, while the M.31 type bolt is finished in-the-white, but is not equipped with a finger-ring on the cocking-piece. The heavy walnut thumbhole target stock is equipped with a height-adjustable hooked buttplate, two-position and rotating hand-rest, as well as an under-forend rail. The rifle is equipped with scope blocks, but currently has a Lyman rear target sight with adjustable aperture, and Parker-Hale target front sight installed. A small and unobtrusive import mark is present on the underside of the barrel just ahead of the forend tip. The rifle is housed in a somewhat dilapidated leather-covered traveling case with a complete Lienhard Patent .22 LR conversion kit (barrel liner, bolt, and instructions). Interestingly, the rifle was Mr. Lienhard's personal rifle, and this is one of his personal namesake conversion kits. The rifle is also accompanied by a packet of information regarding the rifle compiled and preserved by the previous owner. He inherited the rifle from his father; John Anderson of the W.R. Yorkshire Constabulary. P.C. Anderson was twice a member of the Great Britain Police Shooting Team, and competed in the European Police Shooting Championships in 1960 and 1963. He became a gun dealer after he retired and purchased this particular rifle at a 1971 Weller & Dufty . Included are a copy of the original catalog description listing it as Walter Lienhard's personal competition rifle, as well as a copy of the sale invoice, a note from Parker-Hale (who imported the rifle into the UK) stating that it was used during Lienhard's reign as Swiss National Champion, and a certificate issued by the Birmingham Proof House (dated Feb. 11, 1971) stating that the rifle was imported by Parker-Hale, but not proof-fired due to the lack of 7.5mm Swiss ammunition available in the UK. (it is interesting to note that while the .22 conversion kit is also listed, it too was never proof-fired. This is a splendid heavy barrel, off-hand match rifle, and would make a wonderful addition to any collection. The history of the rifle, and it's connection to a renowned shooter and inventor, is also a plus. FFL
