Description:
EARLY INDIAN WARS PERIOD SPRINGFIELD U.S. MODEL 1873 .45-70 TRAPDOOR RIFLE. Serial number "507XX" which puts it within Indian Scouts range. This rifle overall has all the characteristics of an unalterd 1dt type 1873 with correct three groove rifling, early style hammer, smooth trigger, correct sights, high arch breechblock, etc. Traces of original case color in recesses of trapdoor. Original browned barrel now faded to patina. Very good bore and rifling. Original ESA cartouche on left stock crisp as well as Circle/P proof behind lower tang. Stock never been cleaned with no cracks or hairlines. Correct ramrod. Rack number stamped in cob forward of US buttplate. All original screws correct and NOT buggered. Perfect working order. Fine example of early type 1873 with honest character right from the period of Indian Wars activity.
