WHITNEY U.S. MODEL 1841 MISSISSIPPI RIFLE LOCK DATED 1851. .54 caliber. Rare as only 250 altered in 1850-1854 for NJ. Near mint bore and rifling. All period and original and complete example in very good condition with crisp markings(although stock inspector's stamps defaced from possible Confederate capture use). Stamped forward of the hammer “E. WHITNEY/U S” and to the rear “N. HAVEN/1851”. Correct steel ramrod with brass tip. Last three inches of barrel arsenal turned down for bayonet but someone put a brass front sight on it because the bayonets(with integral sight are VERY rare). Original bayonet lug still present on underside. Small hairline behind lockplate will glue down nicely. Front barrel band missing stud on band spring to lock in. Perfect working order with nice patchbox. Rare with such a nice bore too. SOLD Antique: Yes |
