Lock plate signed with maker’s mark “VP” just to the rear of the “DOGS HEAD” cock. Walnut full- length stock with stag horn inlays and fine floral and vine relief carving. Walnut sliding patch box cover with stag horn inlay. Horn butt plate. Steel trigger guard and double set triggers. Brass ramrod pipes and original horn tipped wood ramrod. All original and complete in Very good condition. Metal with nice patina. Forend with WW2 era sea bag cut and a few minor small repairs along the forend. Horn forend cap with slight loss at top on both sides. Working order and excellent bore. The DER NEUE STOCKEL illustrates and lists the maker’s mark on page 1003, Vol. 2, figure #4710 as circa 1650 and observed on Wheelock rifles of that vintage.
