Description:
Sale Pending A very unique old farmhouse relic found years back in Sandston, Va. This model 1855 Harpers Ferry rifle musket was a bring back from the war by a Confederate soldier. As typical with many of these rifles they were cut down and used as shotguns for buck and ball or bird shot. The barrel was cut down to  30 3/4 inches and the stock was cut down also. The bore remains at .60 caliber with faint rifling. The original Harpers Ferry Mississippi style ramrod is still with the musket. These ramrods are almost impossible to locate and it still remains in full length condition retaining its brass tulip shape head and threads at the other end. The lockplate is dated 1860 and remains in excellent condition with its original hammer, a very strong mainspring, trigger guard, barrel band, and butt plate...iron with the groove for the patch box. Initials are also carved in the stock on the right side. This relic has some valuable parts and is a historic relic if left as is and used as a wall hanger, especially in a southern home.
